Probably the best place to start is Memorial Square, in the centre of Hay, just in front of the Castle – which is hard to miss.
Here you’ll find a mix of local producers and makers, and then it is just a short walk to our other market locations: Butter Market for makers, Cheese Market for food producers, and Clock Tower area for flea stalls and food. We hold our flea market for the monthly Saturday Markets in the Castle Honesty Bookshop.

MARKET LOCATIONS
MEMORIAL SQUARE
Memorial Square is the main market area, and the central hub from where all market activity radiates. With the Castle as it’s backdrop, this is where you will find the majority of our incredible food producers, from fresh fish and local cheeses to seasonal veg and sweet treats on Thursdays, to speciality foods, artisan products and freshly cooked street food at the monthly Saturdays. You can also find fabulous flea, books, homewares and more!

Cheese MArket
Built in 1835 on the site of Hay’s town hall on Memorial Square, the Cheese Market was saved by the community and re-opened as a market space in 2014.
Every Thursday you can find stalls overflowing with seasonal veg, artisan breads, pasture-fed meats and queues for Bernie’s famous pastries (arrive early so as not to miss out!). The Saturdays host a group of talented makers, vintage resellers and ethnic homewares.

CloCK TOWER AREA
Before it moved to the square, the market amassed around the Clock Tower, with the throng of livestock spilling over onto the street every Thursday. Today you’re more likely to find a sheepskin for your sofa and a throng of locals rummaging for a vintage bargain, as today the Clock Tower has a well-established weekly Thursday flea and vintage market, with hot food, locally roasted coffee, a plant stall and artisan producers.
The Clock Tower is on the junction of Lion Street and Broad Street, a two minute walk from Memorial Square.

CASTLE HONESTY BOOKSHOP
Once a month, for the Saturday Market, we take over the Castle’s Honesty Bookshop lawn and fill it full of fabulous flea, vintage clothing, collectibles and furniture.
The Honesty Bookshop is located below the Castle through a stone archway off Castle Street, adjacent to Memorial Square.
