NEW CHEESE STALL

In February this year we were beyond thrilled to announce that Anna and Kieran from Castle Greengrocers would not only be selling fruit and veg on the market, but would now be selling cheese and wholefoods too.

The Thursday Market has had a cheese stall for over 40 years. For the majority of those years the stall was very successfully run by Nicky, who inherited the stall from her father. As a young child during the school holidays, Nicky would rise early with her parents, coming to the market square every Thursday to help cut and weigh cheese for customers. There began her passion for market trading and exceptional customer service. The cheese stall is a much-loved market institution and integral to the Thursday Market, so we were very sad to hear that Nicky had decided to retire (who can blame her after over 40 years of 4am starts!).

Luckily for us, Nicky was able to hand the cheese business baton to Geoff and Natalie, who took on the business as Country Fare Wholefoods. After a year on the market Geoff and Natalie decided to move on to pastures new and sold the business to Kieran and Anna at the beginning of 2024.

Kieran and Anna have an established and very successful business with Castle Greengrocers, both in their shop on Castle Street and their Thursday market stall. The integration of a cheese and wholefood business feels a natural progression for them to make. We couldn’t be happier for them, and with a local Hay family at the helm we are very much looking forward to another 40 years of cheese on the market!
